lmost everywhere you look today you will see signs of brand identity being displayed. There are symbols, also called 'logos', on nearly every product you purchase. They are on the packaging of the food we eat, on the drink containers of our favorite beverages, flashed across the home television and covering the signs we see daily driving to work.
ubconsciously these logos are becoming embedded in our minds, and every time we see them they become more and more familiar to us. We start to recognize the company associated with them, and the more we see them, the more confident we feel about that company. Is this some sort of mind control, or is it in reality a sound business advertising decision? Actually it is both. Marketing involves brand recognition, combining a unique identity, consistency and a feeling of trust with the advertiser.
ake a look at the AssetLeader logo. Notice the triangular shape; it appears to be pointing forward, subconsciously a symbol of moving forward. The initials of AssetLeader are embedded in the symbol, using a font that leaves them unobtrusive... subconsciously leaving our initials in the viewers mind. As a logo go's, this could be sufficient alone, however with our marketing experience, we decided to add the company name, bold with the drop outline to embed the name with the viewer. One more addition and we came up with what we wanted, adding the forward bounding shape and triangular shape to the bottom, both symbolizing moving upward while bounding forward!
hile that logo may not completely appeal to all viewers, its original task has been accomplished, leaving our mark on the person who saw it. Logos should be simple, yet visually appealing to the majority of viewers. They should be symbolic of what you stand for, and represent you well. If you pay attention to most major logo's out there today, they are fairly simple in their design, and generally speaking, are colored so that they can be easily utilized on a variety of media. Most marketing professionals will recommend simple colors that can be converted to halftones and grayscale depending on the needs. Gradients are strongly discouraged, in the long run they can be detrimental when converting to various media's.
